About Ethiopia: Things You May Want to Know!

Ethiopia used to be the #1 AIDS country in Africa, but thanks to American efforts, Ethiopia now has its AIDS problem under control, for lack of a better term. It is a relatively poor country. The exchange rate is 10 to 1; one of our dollars buys 10 of theirs. To give an example: a 12oz coke costs 30 cents in Ethiopia. Their economy is mostly agricultural; coffee is a major export. The median age in Ethiopia is 17; forty percent of their population is 15 or younger. And all those youth love to play soccer! Sixty percent of Ethiopians profess to be Christians but 50% of those belong to the Orthodox Church, meaning they have little knowledge or emphasis on the Bible. The Orthodox Church bases everything on tradition so most Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia don't have a relationship with Jesus Christ. The other 10% of Christians are Protestants, have the Bible, and spread the gospel! The remaining 40% of Ethiopians are Muslim. You can already see the great need in Ethiopia for the gospel: 90% of the country needs Jesus! Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia and the most widely spoken, though other languages are spoken as well.
